Divers Deployed to Find AirAsia Debris Hindered by Weather.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-30/airasia-debris-hunt-hampered-by-weather-as-six-bodies-recovered.html

Indonesian authorities began deploying divers to find debris from the crashed AirAsia Bhd. (AIRA) jetliner as a day of adverse weather hindered efforts to find the plane’s black boxes.
Searchers recovered seven bodies so far, including that of a female flight attendant, from the wreckage site of Flight 8501, while 17 helicopters assisted recovery efforts, F.H. Bambang Sulistyo, head of the national search and rescue agency Basarnas, said today in Jakarta. Parts of the aircraft body were identified after establishing sonar contact at 24 meters under water.
Aerial operations were suspended because of bad weather, officials said late in the day. Sixty seven divers were readied by Indonesia to scour the area for the fuselage of the Airbus Group NV (AIR)A320, plus the black boxes that may answer what doomed the 162 people on board. The cockpit-voice and flight-data recorders are essential to piecing together what happened in the six minutes between the time the pilot asked the control tower for permission to deviate from the flight path and when the jet dropped off radar contact.
The aircraft went missing Dec. 28 en route to Singapore from the central Indonesian city of Surabaya. Search crews found objects including what appears to be an emergency door as well as submerged items resembling plane parts, Sulistyo said yesterday. Searchers recovered an evacuation slide today, officials said.

No Response

The bodies of four males and three females were found. Indonesia can’t yet say if there were any survivors, Sulistyo said. No bodies were found wearing a life jacket, Air Force spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto said in an interview today.
The crash site is in an area around Pangkalan Bun, about 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) southeast of Singapore. Water in the area is shallow, at 25 meters to 30 meters deep.
The Flight 8501 pilots requested to climb to 38,000 feet and were given a response two minutes later to fly at 34,000 feet, Wisnu Darjono, director at AirNav Indonesia, the nation’s air navigation operator, told Bloomberg News today, citing a transcript of the conversation between traffic controllers and the plane. The transcript is being submitted for review by the National Transport Safety Committee.
The pilots didn’t reply to the controller’s response, Darjono said. The actual transcript won’t be released to the public.
The black boxes, which are encased in bright orange to facilitate their retrieval, are waterproof, fortified and designed to emit an electronic signal underwater for 30 days to help searchers find them. No pings have been detected, Indonesia’s Air Force said yesterday.
It’s the third high-profile incident involving a carrier in Asia this year, raising safety concerns in one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. AirAsia is the biggest customer by units of the A320, a workhorse airliner that’s used by hundreds of carriers around the world.
The black boxes could answer questions for families who wonder what happened, provide insight to the industry about what causes accidents and prompt changes to practices or new technologies.
It took almost two years for investigators to recover the data recorders from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean after an Air France plane went down en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in 2009. Indonesia avoided the missteps that plagued the fruitless hunt for Malaysian Airline System Bhd.’s Flight 370, analysts said.

Inflation No-Show Unlikely to Slow Fed Countdown to Rate Liftoff.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-31/inflation-no-show-unlikely-to-slow-fed-countdown-to-rate-liftoff.html

Economists are slashing U.S. inflation forecasts for 2015 as oil prices tumble. What’s not changing are predictions that theFederal Reserve will raise its benchmark interest rate anyway, probably around mid-year.
“We’re still saying June with risks to September,” said Michael Gapen, the New York-based chief U.S. economist for Barclays Plc. The Fed “can push rates higher in the middle of the year, even though visually that may look awkward if headline inflation is around zero.”
stronger dollar, slowing global growth and cheaper oil are holding down costs for goods such as televisions and autos. Fed policy makers will probably look past that and see an improving labor market that will force employers to offer higher wages. Those costs will soon push up the price of such things as rent and restaurant meals, no matter what happens overseas, giving the central bank room to raise interest rates that have been stuck near zero for six years.
The personal consumption expenditure, or PCE, price index that’s the Fed’s preferred measure will be up 0.5 percent in the second quarter of 2015 from the same time this year, Barclays economists projected on Dec. 19. That’s down from a previous forecast of 1.2 percent. The consumer-price index, a separate gauge, is projected to show a small decline in the 12 months through June.
The Fed’s goal is for PCE inflation to climb around 2 percent a year.
Core prices, which exclude food and fuel, will rise 1.7 percent over the same period, according to the analysis by Barclays. That compares with a previously estimated 1.9 percent.

Dallas Fed

Regional Fed bank gauges are signaling inflation will be slow to accelerate. The Dallas Fed’s “trimmed mean” index, which eliminates the components in the PCE price gauge that show the biggest changes in any month, increased 1.6 percent in November from a year earlier, holding within the 1.6 percent to 1.7 percent range it’s been in since April.
Including food and fuel, the PCE price index rose 1.2 percent in the 12 months ended in November, the smallest gain since March, according to Commerce Department figures issued last week. The rule of thumb is that it will converge toward the trimmed mean reading over the next 12 months, pointing to a gradual pickup, according to the Dallas Fed’s report.

Goldman’s View

If it’s lower than 1.5 percent by June, as they predict, and wages show only a modest pickup, then the central bank will probably hold off, Jan Hatzius, Goldman’s New York-based chief economist, wrote in a Dec. 26 note. Should inflation undershoot even their below-consensus forecast, the Fed could wait until 2016, he said.
While Barclays’s Gapen acknowledges a rate liftoff could be delayed, the Fed has to make decisions based on where policy makers think the economy and inflation will be in 12 to 18 months, he said. And by June, the jobless rate will already be close to the 5.2 percent to 5.5 percent that Fed officials say is consistent with full employment, a sign bigger pay increases are in store.
“If you can run the domestic economy hot enough, then you can have services inflation that offsets a weak global backdrop,” said Gapen. “What we would be looking for is just broad-based services inflation related to wages.”

Oil Falls in Worst Year Since 2008 as Europe Stocks Gain.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-30/yen-holds-rebound-with-gold-after-s-p-500-slips-from-peak.html

Crude oil fell, heading for its worst year since 2008 amid a global supply glut. Stocks rose in Europe, on course for a third annual increase, while yields on Treasuries declined.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 2.1 percent to $52.98 a barrel at 7:20 a.m. in New York and the Bloomberg Commodity Index (BCOM), which tracks 22 products from crude to copper, decreased 0.7 percent. Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul All Share Index lost 2.5 percent, after King Abdullah was admitted to hospital for medical checks. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index advanced 0.3 percent and futures on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index were little changed. Yields on 10-year Treasury notes fell two basis points to 2.17 percent.
Crude’s 45 percent tumble this year, spurred by the largest U.S. output in three decades and OPEC’s refusal to cut production, has roiled global markets and hurt energy-producing nations including Russia, whose ruble had its steepest annual retreat since 1998. Initial jobless claims in the U.S. increased in the week ended Dec. 27 and pending home sales climbed in November, economists forecast before reports today.
“The drop in oil added much more volatility to markets,” said Louis de Fels, a Paris-based fund manager at Raymond James Financial Inc., which oversees about $53 billion. “We’re confident in European equities in 2015. We expect there’ll be fewer geopolitical problems next year. Also, lower oil will help consumption in Europe, the U.S. and China. This is quite good news for 2015 global growth.”

Oil’s Slump

Oil’s slump has squeezed government budgets in producing nations including Venezuela and Ecuador, while boosting China’s emergency crude reserves and helping shrink fuel subsidies in India and Indonesia. OPEC has signaled it won’t cut supply to influence prices, instead preferring to defend market share amid an unprecedented U.S. shale boom.
Commodities headed for the biggest annual loss since the global financial crisis in 2008, retreating for a record fourth year.

Global Shares

More than $1.8 trillion was added to the value of global shares this year as the S&P 500 (SPX),Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU) and Russell 2000 Index of smaller companies climbed to records. The Nasdaq Composite Index (CCMP) reached its highest level since March 2000 this week.
The S&P 500 is up 13 percent for the year in its third annual gain. The Stoxx 600 climbed 4.2 percent in 2014 and the MSCI All-Country World Index (SASEIDX) added 2.8 percent.
The volume of Stoxx 600 shares changing hands was 82 percent below the 30-day average today, data compiled by Bloomberg show. The benchmark is down 1.5 percent this month, heading for its first December decline since 2008.
The yen slumped 12 percent against the dollar this year after dropping 18 percent last year and 11 percent in 2012. It was little changed today at 119.35 per dollar. The euro was little changed at $1.2154, set for a 12 percent annual decline.
U.K. government bonds rose, pushing the 10-year yield down four basis points, or 0.04 percentage point, to 1.75 percent.
Bonds returned 7.7 percent in 2014, the most since 2002 when they gained 8.9 percent, according to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Broad Market Index.

Treasury Yields

Yields on 10-year Treasury notes are down from 3.03 percent at the end of 2013.
The MSCI Emerging Markets Index rose 0.3 percent, trimming the first back-to-back annual loss in 12 years. The developing-country gauge fell 4.5 percent in 2014. Global investors pulled the most funds out of emerging markets this month since June 2013, the International Institute of Finance said.

The inferior turbinates are the largest and the first to mitigate the inspired Air.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

As the inferior turbinates are the largest and the first to mitigate the inspired air, their loss has the most profound effect on the physiology of the remaining mucosa. The middle turbinates hover above the inferior turbinates and begin from approximately the midsection of the nasal cavity. They are much smaller and unlike the inferior turbinates harbour some olfactory nerve axons and protect the upper regions of the cavity, in particularly the olfactory bundle of nerves at the roof of the nose and the openings of the ethmoid and frontal sinuses.

There are typically three pairs of Turbinates in the human Nose.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

There are typically three pairs of turbinates in the human nose - the inferior concha, the middle concha and the superior concha. Each pair is very different in size and in shape, and each protect a different region of the nasal cavity: The inferior turbinates are the largest and extend all across the lower part of the nasal cavity, from the very front of the nose almost up to the nasopharynx.

When the inferior turbinates are Resected.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

When the inferior turbinates are resected the nasal cycle can no longer fully congest the side of the nose where they were resected and therefore much of the natural recuperation capability on that side is lost.

Nasal Cycle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

The recuperation of the nose is achieved by a phenomenon known as the 'nasal cycle'. Every 3–6 hours one side of the nose congests with blood while the other remains decongested - thus the majority of the workload of breathing is done through the decongested side while the congested side rests and recuperates.

A normal nose of an adult processes on average 10,000 liters of air in 24 Hours.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

The turbinates play a vital role in protecting the inner nasal mucosa and allowing it to recuperate and regenerate. A normal nose of an adult processes on average 10,000 liters of air in 24 hours, it therefore needs some form of resting period to recuperate and maintain good health and integrity of the delicate respiratory epithelium layer that lines the entire nasal airway and sinuses.

Etiology.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

The turbinates are known as the main humidifying, heat exchanging, air-filtering, airflow controlling and airflow sensing structures of the nose. They control heat, humidify and filter the airflow by streamlining it around them as it progresses through the nose, thus significantly increasing the mucosal surface that comes into contact with the airflow. Their integrity and function is crucial for maintaining nasal and sinus health and physiology. Built aerodynamically from anterior to posterior they are designed to not over obstruct breathing while processing the airflow.

Other predominant symptoms are lack of a good night's sleep and chronic Fatigue.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

Other predominant symptoms are lack of a good night's sleep and chronic fatigue. The chronic nature of the physical symptoms has a significant impact on the patient's quality of life and sense of well-being, causing difficulty concentrating, pre-occupation with symptoms, anxiety, and clinical depression. Also, development of asthma and chronic bronchitis is not uncommon, as the nose is the guardian of the lungs.

3) Neuropathic Pain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

Chronic inflammation and neurophatic pain in pharynx, eustachian tube, throat, larynx, trachea, in more severe cases - in bronchi and lungs. Chronic hoarse voice and cough can also take place. This is caused by insufficiently processed (moisturised, warmed, cleaned) air passing through the respiratory system. ENS can also serve as an prerequisite for asthma.

Without good and constant airflow Sensation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

Without good and constant airflow sensation of the air flowing through the nose, the nervous feedback to the central nervous system is that of suffocation and or undifferentiated breathing difficulties arise.

2) Paradoxical Obstruction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

The feeling that the nose is stuffy, often accompanied by a constant or frequently occurring troubling feeling of suffocation generated by poor airflow feedback from the nasal mucosa, either because of atrophy of the trigeminal nerve endings that are supposed to generate this sensation, their lack of responsiveness because of the mucosa becoming too dry or going through metaplasia, or simply because of the loss of normal nasal aerodynamics following the turbinectomy.

Main Symptoms.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

The main physical symptoms are:
1) Chronic nasal dryness Often leads to chronic mucosal inflammation and pain. Chronic inflammation can cause areas of the mucosa to atrophy and this is why some studies refer to this condition as "secondary atrophic rhinitis".At least one large study concluded that it can take 7.1 years, on average, for symptoms of atrophic rhinitis to appear and urges the examining physician to look for early signs and to try to counter them with self-administered daily nasal irrigations and moisturization by the patient.

Normal Nose before and after Turbinectomy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

Empty Nose Syndrome.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome

In otolaryngologyempty nose syndrome (ENS) describes a nose that has been physiologically crippled by excessive surgical removal of turbinates in the nose (mainly the inferior turbinates) in a surgical procedure known as 'turbinectomy' or 'conchotomy'. It is therefore an iatrogenic condition that can and should be avoided.

Neti (Hatha Yoga).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neti_(Hatha_Yoga)

Neti (Sanskrit: नेति) is an important part of Hindu Shatkarma (sometimes known as Shatkriya), the yogic system of body cleansing techniques that is an integral part of Hinduism. It is intended mainly to the cleaning of the air passageways in the head. Both the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and other sources usually attribute to Neti many beneficial effects that range from profound physiological ones on the body, mind and personality to even clairvoyance. The two main variants are jala neti (जलनेति) using water and the more advanced sutra neti (सूत्रनेति) using string.

Neoteny.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Stephen Jay Gould has noted that larger noses are less neotenous, especially the large "Grecian" nose.Women have smaller noses than men due to not having "increased secretion of testosterone in adolescence"and smaller noses are considered more attractive on women.Werner syndrome, a condition that causes the appearance of premature aging, causes a "bird-like" appearance due to pinching of the nose while, conversely, Down syndrome, a neotenizing condition, causes flattening of the nose.

Aquatic Ape Hypothesis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

The aquatic ape hypothesis relates the nose to a hypothesized period of aquatic adaptation in which the downward-facing nostrils and flexible philtrum prevented water from entering the nasal cavities. The theory is not generally accepted by mainstream scholars of human evolution.

Nose is an alteration of the angle of skull following human skeletal Changes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Humans
An article published in the speculative journal Medical Hypotheses suggested that the nose is an alteration of the angle of skull following human skeletal changes due to bipedalism. This changed the shape of the skull base causing, together with change in diet, a knock-on morphological reduction in the relative size of the maxillary and mandible and through this a "squeezing" of the protrusion of the most anterior parts of the face more forward and so increasing nose prominence and modifying its shape.

High and narrow nose of Eskimos and Neanderthals.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Miquel Hernández of the Department of Animal Biology at the University of Barcelona said the "high and narrow nose of Eskimos" and "Neanderthals" is an "adaption to a cold and dry environment", since it contributes to warming and moisturizing the air and the "recovery of heat and moisture from expired air".

Evolutionary Hypotheses.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Neanderthals
Clive Finlayson of the Gibraltar Museum said the large Neanderthal noses were an adaption to the cold,Todd C. Rae of the American Museum of Natural History said primate and arctic animal studies have shown sinus size reduction in areas of extreme cold rather than enlargement in accordance with Allen's rule. Therefore, Todd C. Rae concludes that the design of the large and prognathic Neanderthal nose was evolved for the hotter climate of the Middle East and was kept when the Neanderthals entered Europe.

Nose Fetishism (or nasophilia).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Nose fetishism (or nasophilia) is the sexual fetish (or paraphilia) for the nose. The psychiatric condition of extreme nose picking is termed rhinotillexomania.
Jewish people are often portrayed as having large and aquiline noses in antisemitic propaganda. The term "Jewish nose" is controversial. In China and some other locations in East Asia, Westerners (Caucasians) are often designated as having "big" or "high" noses, due to the differences in shape and proportion between noses typical of Caucasians and those typical of Chinese.

Allergic Salute.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Nose-picking is a common, mildly taboo habit. Medical risks include the spread of infections, nosebleeds and, rarely, self-induced perforation of the nasal septum. The wiping of the nose with the hand, commonly referred to as the "allergic salute", is also mildly taboo and can result in the spreading of infections as well. Habitual as well as fast or rough nose wiping may also result in a crease (known as a transverse nasal crease or groove) running across the nose, and can lead to permanent physical deformity observable in childhood and adulthood.

Society and Culture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_nose

Some people choose to get rhinoplasty to change the aesthetic appearance of their nose. Nose piercings are also common, such as nostril, septum or bridge.
In New Zealand, nose pressing ("hongi") is a traditional greeting amongst Maori people. However it is now generally confined to certain traditional celebrations.
The Hanazuka monument enshrines the mutilated noses of at least 38,000 Koreans killed during the Japanese invasions of Korea from 1592 to 1598.

Shake Shack Files for IPO That Could Value It at $1 Billion .

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-29/shake-shack-files-for-initial-offering-of-meyer-s-burger-chain.html

Shake Shack Inc. is going public and may be worth as much as $1 billion -- not bad considering New York restaurateur Danny Meyer started the joint as a public service.
Founded more than a decade ago to help support the restoration of Manhattan’s Madison Square Park, Shake Shack was an instant success, drawing long lines of urbanites attracted by Meyer’s modern spin on a roadside burger stand. Today, Shake Shack has more than 63 outlets in 30-plus cities from London to Dubai.
Shake Shack started as a hot-dog cart that later became a permanent kiosk and neighborhood fixture. Hungry urbanites have been known to hop on the subway to get their fix of $4.95 burgers and $5.15 shakes. Besides burgers and fries, the chain sells the frozen custard Meyer enjoyed as a boy in St. Louis.
Meyer’s timing with Shake Shack was auspicious. Shake Shack joined a “better burger” boom as foodies from Los Angeles to New York began clamoring for food that tasted good and used sustainably raised ingredients. Much like many fast casual joints these days, Shake Shack advertises “100% all-natural Angus beef, vegetarian fed, humanely raised and source verified.”

Meyer’s Reward

Shake Shack used a $100 million placeholder for the IPO, a figure to calculate fees that may change.
In addition to making a payment to Meyer and early backers including Leonard Green Partners & Partners LP, the company plans to use its IPO proceeds to repay debt, open new Shake Shack restaurants and renovate existing ones.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley are managing the offering. Because Shake Shack filed as an emerging-growth company under the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, or JOBS Act, it must wait at least 21 days before officially marketing its share sale.

Air-Crash Spate Puts 2014 on Course to Be Asian Aviation’s Worst.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-28/air-crash-spate-puts-year-on-course-to-be-asian-aviation-s-worst.html

Four airline incidents in which more than 600 people died made 2014 one of the worst years for Asian aviation even before the disappearance of AirAsia Bhd. (AIRA) QZ8501.
The unresolved disappearance of Malaysian Airline System Bhd. flight MH370 over the Indian Ocean, the downing of Malaysian Air flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine, the crash of a TransAsia Airways Corp. plane as it prepared to land on Taiwan’s Penghu Islands, and an August wreck in Iran have marked a tragic year for Asia’s booming aviation industry.
“It has affected many Asian airlines,” said Shukor Yusof, founder of aviation research firm Endau Analystics. “The danger is that Malaysia has been seen as a country that produces unsafe airlines, which is not the case at all. It’s just unfortunate that three aircraft have been lost and they all belong to Malaysian carriers. I don’t think it’s a reflection of those airlines’ safety.”
This year may end up being the worst for passenger fatalities globally since 2005, when 916 lives were lost, according to air-safety consultants Ascend Worldwide. The missing AirAsia plane carried 155 passengers and seven crew members on a flight to Singapore from Surabaya, Indonesia.
Flight 370 vanished from radar screens enroute to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8 with 239 passengers and crew and traveled thousands of miles off course into open ocean, according to satellite data. No trace of the plane has been found, making it the longest disappearance in modern commercial aviation.

‘Rough Year’

MH17 was shot down in Ukraine in July, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew members. The TransAsia crash killed 44 passengers, also in July. In Iran, a domestically assembled turboprop crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 39 out of 50 people on board in August.
“2014 certainly has been a rough year for airlines,” said Mark D. Martin, CEO of Dubai-based Martin Consulting LLC. “An adverse incident and event affecting the safe operation of aircraft can strike almost anywhere at anytime and for this very reason, the aviation industry each year spends nearly $6 billion dollars to ensure pre-emptive actions are created and aircraft fly safer.”
About 100,000 flights a day land without incident worldwide, according to the International Air Transport Association. In 2013, more than 3 billion people flew and there were 210 fatalities.
Air travel remains “one of the safest modes of transport” compared to others, Yusof said.
“One of the things we can see, especially out of Indonesia, is that they have made tremendous progress in improving their safety records,” he said.
The surge in fatal accidents out of Asia this year is unlikely to dampen the growth of low-cost airlines in Southeast Asia and won’t affect AirAsia’s expansion plans, he said.
“We believe that 2015 will see increased pressure on airlines from insurers, leasing companies, safety compliance authorities and the traveler as there still are questions needed to be answered and confidence requiring to be built,” Martin said.

Indonesia Says Sure Debris Found Is From Missing Plane.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-30/indonesia-says-sure-debris-found-is-from-missing-airasia-plane.html

Indonesian search crews recovered debris and bodies floating in the sea from the AirAsia Bhd. airliner that went missing three days ago with 162 people on board, as investigators seek to determine what brought down the plane.
Among the discovered objects is what appears to be an emergency door as well as submerged items resembling plane parts, F.H. Bambang Sulistyo, head of the national search and rescue agency, said in Jakarta. Two female bodies and one male body were retrieved, he said. No mention was made of survivors.
The crash site is in an area around Pangkalan Bun, about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) southeast of Singapore, the destination of Flight 8501, which started in Surabaya, Indonesia on Dec. 28. Water in the area is shallow, at 25 meters to 30 meters deep, and authorities have prepared divers for the search of the data recorders and further evidence.
“It wasn’t a controlled ditching,” said Paul Hayes, safety director at London-based aviation consulting company Ascend Worldwide Ltd. “That’s clear from the finding of bodies that don’t have life jackets on.”

No Signal

The plane disappeared off radars after the pilot requested a higher altitude because of stormy clouds in the flight path. The last signal from the plane was between the city of Pontianak on Borneo and Tanjung Pandan.
With the plane’s wreckage located, authorities will focus their efforts on finding the recorders, which store cockpit communication and sounds from the front of the plane as well as key data points that can help recreate the last moments of a doomed flight. The boxes, which are bright orange to facilitate their retrieval, are waterproof and fortified and emit an electronic signal to help search crews find the devices.

Clouds, Storm

Losing the AirAsia plane caps what could be the worst year for air-passenger fatalities since 2010. The AirAsia pilots didn’t send a distress signal, drawing comparisons with Malaysian Airline System Bhd.’s Flight 370 that disappeared on March 8 en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. No wreckage from that flight has been found in what’s become the longest search for a passenger jet in modern aviation history.
While AirAsia is based in Sepang, Malaysia, it operates with subsidiaries and affiliates in different countries. The missing plane belonged to its Indonesian operations.
AirAsia QZ8501 was at 32,000 feet when the pilots requested to fly higher to avoid clouds, acting Air Transport Director Djoko Murjatmodjo said in Jakarta. Air traffic controllers didn’t respond to the request before the plane disappeared off radar, National Transportation Safety Committee head Tatang Kurniadi said yesterday. There were storms along AirAsia’s flight path,Accuweather.com said on its website.
AirAsia founder and Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said he’s headed to Surabaya to support the mission. His airline, which has never had a fatal accident since he created it from almost nothing in 2001, will do “whatever we can do” to support the effort, he said in a Twitter message.
“Words cannot express how sorry I am,” he said on his official Twitter account.

Even though it is the leading cause of mortality for women, some women still perceive coronary artery disease (CAD) as a "man's disease" and consequently don't recognize their risk, according to study authors quoted in a recent press release. Other research also suggests that women's focus on caregiving roles and responsibility might be at play, making them more concerned with how long they'd be out of commission if something was wrong, rather than seeking out treatment options.

It is important to note that the women in the study were between the ages of 44 and 84, putting them at higher risk for CAD. That said, age isn't an excuse to dismiss your symptoms entirely; if something is wrong and you wait, there is a large chance you'll have a more severe problem than you would have if you had heeded the angina's warning sign—which will leave you with fewer treatment options. So if you feel pressure, squeezing, burning, or tightness in your chest, it's worth it to get it checked out. It might turn out to be nothing, but if not, you'll be glad you didn't wait.

For this reason, the area from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose, including the nose and maxilla, is known to doctors as the danger triangle of the face.
